About BYG
A Canadian-made site that plans home gyms around your room, your ceiling and your budget, and shows what each piece really costs delivered to your door in Canada or the US: price, shipping, customs and your sales tax.
Who we are
BYG stands for Build Your Gym (say it like “big”). It's an independent project run by Ryder Silver in Canada. It started with a home gym of our own and the spreadsheet it took to work out what everything would really cost in Canada. Questions or corrections: homegymplanner@gmail.com.
Where our information comes from
- Prices, sizes and specs come from each brand's own store for your country, or an authorized retailer. Canadian shoppers get Canadian stores in Canadian dollars; US shoppers get US stores in US dollars.
- Every price shows the date we checked it. Prices older than 90 days are marked, and the Builder stops using any older than 180 days.
- When a store doesn't publish something, like a shipping cost or a machine's height, we say so instead of guessing.
- We write our own product descriptions. We don't copy reviews, listings or prices from review sites.
How the Builder picks equipment
It keeps only what fits your room and ceiling, prices everything all-in for your province or state, and picks the best value for each piece that suits your goals. Every pick comes with its reasons and any warnings, plus the alternatives. No brand can pay to be picked or ranked higher.
How we rate equipment
Each product gets scores out of 5 on what matters for its type, every score with its reason. Most ratings are made from published specs, prices and store policies, and each one says so. Read how we rate.
How we make money
Right now we don't earn anything from the site, and no link on it pays us. We're applying to retailers' affiliate programs. If we join, some store links will earn us a small commission at no cost to you, we'll say so on this page and next to the prices, and it will never affect which product the Builder picks.
Your information
You can use the Builder and browse equipment without giving us anything. If you ask a person to review your plan, our privacy page explains exactly what we keep and for how long.
