US-to-Canada cost calculator

Turn a US price into what it really costs at your Canadian door: exchange rate, card fees, duty, tax, brokerage, or a border pickup.

Couriers usually bill a fee for clearing customs. Ask the store which courier it uses, or if it ships duties paid.

Duty

Where it was made (the “Made in” label, not where the store is)

It depends on exactly what it is. Look it up in CBSA's duty and taxes estimator; leave it blank if you're not sure, and we'll count it as none.

The rules behind it

  • By courier from the US: up to $40 is free; $40 to $150 owes tax but no duty; over $150 owes both.
  • By mail: anything over $20 owes duty and tax.
  • Border pickup: same-day trips get no exemption. After 24 hours, up to $200 is free, but over $200 none of it is. After 48 hours, the first $800 is free.
  • Duty: goods made in Canada, the US or Mexico owe none (CUSMA). Counter-tariffs only hit some US-made goods.
  • Tax: GST or HST, plus provincial sales tax where your province has one, on the value plus any duty.
